Originally from the Chicago area, Janet Haarvig has performed with the Chicago Lyric Opera, the Caracas Philharmonic and many other ensembles. She received a Master of Music degree at SUNY Stony Brook, where she studied with Bernard Greenhouse. Janet teaches cello and improvisation at her music studios in Kalispell and Missoula.
She is principal cellist of the Glacier Symphony, plays with the Festival Amadeus in Kalispell and has performed with the String Orchestra of the Rockies for 25 years. This fall she will start a new adventure as the orchestra and music appreciation teacher at Big Sky High School and the beginning strings teacher at Hawthorne School. Janet also composes; her piece "First Snow on Autumn Leaves" was recorded by the String Orchestra of the Rockies, and "Dance of the Great Bear" was composed for and performed by the Glacier High School Orchestra. She has also written and recorded cello arrangements for the CDs of over 30 songwriters. Janet and her husband Barry now enjoy having homes in both the beautiful countryside of Proctor and the fun town of Missoula! |
