Johan Jonsson (violin), is a founding member of the String Orchestra of the Rockies. He is a native of Sweden and received his musical training at the Conservatoire Darius Milhaud in Aix-en-Provence and the Ecole Nationale de Musique in Bobigny Paris), France; the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, Sweden; and Indiana University in Bloomington, where he studied violin with Paul Biss and Tadeusz Wronski. He is the founder and director of the Summer Youth Orchestra Workshop, a summer camp for high school string players, which he started in Bozeman in 1995. He serves as Concertmaster of the Bozeman Symphony and the Intermountain Opera Orchestra and is a former member of the Stockholm Philharmonic and the Billings Symphony. Frequently in demand as a chamber musician, conductor, and soloist with orchestras in the US, Jonsson has also performed extensively in Europe. He spent the spring semester of 2002 in Bologna, Italy working on a research and writing project. |
